Project Overview
Investing in the planting and maintenance of balsa trees not only helps to protect the old primary rainforest, but also creates job opportunities for local communities. Thirty percent of the investment covers material costs while the remaining seventy percent is spent on salaries for local workers. The project also deposits funds to a local climate fund that promotes sustainable development in the villages, generating income and employment opportunities for the Shuar people.
After 5-6 years, a portion of the balsa trees can be sold, and the community will receive 20 percent of the earnings. Additionally, the project helps to protect rainforest biodiversity, provides sustainably produced balsa wood for the windmill industry, and converts old agricultural lands into more diverse forest lands. By supporting this project, you are not only investing in sustainable forestry but also supporting the livelihoods and culture of local communities while promoting positive change towards the World Development Goals.
